In September 2011, Lynn Alleva Lilley moved with her husband and two children to Amman, Jordan. Far away from her home and her father, who was ill at the time, she tried to make a home for her family, and used photography to familiarize this initially strange land. Over the course of three years she photographed the Jordanian people, Syrian and Iraqi refugees, animals in private zoos and farms, bird migration and landscapes. Themes such as displacement, entrapment and adaptation are strongly reflected in this book. Her otherworldly images express conflicting emotions as nurturing and pain, suffering and resignation, solitude and companionship, beauty and decay.

Tender Mint contains poems by Jane Hirshfield and Samih al-Qasim and two personal anecdotes by the author. Alleva Lilley is currently residing in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
