“I didn’t exactly know how I felt. It was something close to a fit of giggles. It wasn’t an unpleasant feeling.” — Herman Koch
The word ‘Ertussenuit’ has no direct English translation. It is a phrase that roughly means: ‘a day out’. And so we go, out for the day, with Sjoerd Knibbeler as our guide. This is a stroll through the zoos, spas, pools and paintball parks of the Netherlands where blue skies are murals and the trees have buttons. Ertussenuit is a collection of photographs from parks, museums, and recreational arenas and gives us backstage access into the production of contemporary Dutch amusement.
